Scar Therapy

Scar Therapy can help to reduce pain, tightness, improve feeling and help to reduce adhesions and fibrosis build up. It stimulates healing and can also offer emotional support and help to build a positive connection with your scar.

It is common after a C section that your scar may feel painful, tight, itchy, even numb. Not only may you feel these symptoms locally but they may be contributing to issues more globally such as tightness in the hips, back and other surrounding areas.

I trained in ScarWork in 2016, a treatment concept born out of an American Bodywork Therapist; Sharon Wheeler. Sharon produced over 30 techniques concentrating on underlaying layers of the scar, fascia and adhesions. These techniques help to make the scar feel softer, looser and less raised.

I have since specialised in the treatment of C section scars and have complete training from 2 of the leading scar therapists Hannah Poulton (www.hlp-therapy.co.uk) and Emma Holly at Restore Therapy (www.restoretherapyclinic.co.uk)

At Advance Balance Ltd  our Scar Therapy treatment, amalgamates techniques learned from these Scar Therapy schools to provide a thorough and comprehensive assessment and treatment of your C section scar.

During your assessment we look at your posture, movement of you and your scar and how your breathing is impacted by the scar and if there is any abdominal seperation. Following this detailed assessment we use manual/hands on techniques, from ScarWork, Restore Scar Therapy and HLP scar Massage, and Anatomy Trains fascial release techniques, which are all non invasive and gentle, working at your pace, depending on your physical and emotional needs. We also have useful medical devices in clinic, such as Deep Oscillation and LymphaTouch machines. During our session we can advise you on useful products such as moisturisation, silicone and compression, that all can help with scar healing and the prevention of complications associated with scarring. These products can also help with Hypertrophic(red and raised scar) and Keloid Scarring.

We can give you techniques for you to use at home as part of your self care routine and also advise on exercises suitable for your pelvic floor, breathing and abdominal muscles to create a well rounded Scar rehab programme.

Natal Checks

Natal Checks assessment looks at your posture, movement, breathing and also assesses for any abdominal separation following the birth of your baby from 6-8 weeks onwards. From this assessment a suitable rehab programme for your Pelvic Floor, breath and abdominals can be prescribed based on Pilates principles. In addition if it is felt that you would benefit from a more detailed women's health Pelvic floor assessment, then suitable signposting can be offered.

LymphaTouch

LymphaTouch is a medical device, which delivers precisely controlled negative pressure(vacuum)on the skin, which lifts the skin and underlying tissues, stimulating the lymphatics. This device helps to remove excess fluid and assists with healing.

LymphaTouch can be used as a stand alone treatment modality but can also be used as an adjunct to therapy such as Scar management, lymphatic drainage, pre and post op management etc.

At Advance Balance LymphaTouch is used as part of the Scar Work Therapy and can also be used as an 'add on' to the Rejuvology and Enerqi Facials to further assist with reducing fine lines, wrinkles as well targeting and reducing oedema to the face and around the eyes.

Deep Oscillation Therapy

This machine delivers electrostatic field via massage or applicators. This results in vibration and lifting of tissues being treated, permeating to a depth of 8cm. This treatment is light and gentle resulting in a relaxing and pleasant experience.

Some of the benefits include:

- Decrease in pain

- Decrease in oedema

- Decrease fibrosis

- Reducing bruising

This makes this piece of equipment a great adjunct to Scar Therapy, during post operative healing and for reduction of pain, facial oedema as well as fine lines and wrinkles.
